Cloud Nine!

Well, I’m starting to come down from cloud nine following the wonderful Dory’s Avengers book launch last Thursday. Wow! Even my vivid imagination was unable to come up with anything as fabulous as the reality. I am intending to write a proper blog soon, but at the moment it’s all I can do to stop beaming long enough to write anything at all.

Thank you to everyone who made Thursday 29 August 2013 the best day of my life so far. Thank you to everyone who came along, bought a copy of Dory’s and shared the evening with me. Thank you to everyone who took photos and helped out supplying my guests with refreshments and copies of Dory’s Avengers to purchase. Thank you for all the support from followers on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads and, of course, right here on An Author’s View.

The sun is shining, the Champagne is on ice and I’m about ready to burst with excitement! If you’re in Cambridge this evening and would like to pop along to Waterstones at 6pm I would be delighted to welcome you to my book launch. Regular visitors to ‘An Author’s View’ may have noticed that no author interview has appeared this week. The interviews will return in September as there are plenty more fabulous authors happy to share their stories with us, but for now I would like to dedicate ‘An Authors View’ solely to my very soon to be published début novel, DORY’S AVENGERS.

One week today Dory’s will be officially published and my lifelong dream will have come true. I’ve always enjoyed storytelling, and I’ve always loved books. Now the two have come together, and it goes without saying that I’m excited. I’m also nervous; the butterflies have been churning away in my stomach for a couple of weeks now, but that’s all part of the thrill. At the forthcoming Book WaterstonesLaunch in the Cambridge branch of Waterstones on 29 August I’ll be signing copies of my beautiful book, making a speech, reading from DORY’S AVENGERS…

Yes, I’ll be the centre of attention. Bring it on! I can’t wait.

Whatever happens after the book launch will be a huge adventure as I continue my steep learning curve. Thanks to fellow authors, who have been unfailingly supportive of my writing, I know a lot of hard work awaits me as I continue to keep the interest in DORY’S AVENGERS alive with promotional events, more book signings, and, of course, my twin loves of blogging and networking. Somewhere along the way I would like to continue writing ‘New Book’, as well as acquiring a good reputation as an editor. I need to keep the wolf from the door somehow, and believe me, he’s sharpening his teeth even as I type! I’m looking forward to it, with a little bit of trepidation. No one ever ventured into the unknown without a few nerves, but I’ll be working for something about which I am passionate: my writing. To have been given the opportunity to follow my passion is a wonderful gift, a gift for which I will be eternally grateful.

The future certainly looks very exciting, and it will all kick off in a week’s time. As the countdown escalates I have decided to shamelessly copy an idea from Nicky Wells: blogger extraordinaire, author of the fabulous SOPHIE’S TURN, SOPHIE’S RUN and soon to be published SOPHIE’S ENCORE, and supportive friend. Like me, Nicky is a music fan, and every Monday she adds some music to her blog. Music has always been a source of inspiration for me, so for the next seven days I will share a song each day as a soundtrack for DORY’S AVENGERS.

Book Launch Bliss

Earlier today I walked into the Cambridge branch of Waterstones and asked to speak to the events coordinator.

‘Will she know what it’s about?’ asked the young man behind the counter.

‘She will,’ I replied, beaming my hugest smile.

Indeed she did. Within minutes we were shaking hands, then she proudly showed me the space earmarked for what promises to be the most exciting event of my life to date: the launch of my début novel, Dory’s Avengers.

I’ve been waiting for this day for weeks. When I say waiting I don’t mean I’ve sat idle. Blogging, networking, making new friends, cultivating useful contacts have kept me well occupied, but now I realise all that was just the calm before the storm. On Monday of this week I met with Book Guild’s marketing team, on Tuesday the Waterstones staff in Cambridge confirmed that they would be happy to host my book launch and on Wednesday it finally sank into my frantic brain that my dream to be a published author really is about to come true. People will soon be able to buy my beautiful book. They’ll be able to read it, talk about it, tweet about it, give it five star reviews on Amazon (please?!); and to start it all off I will be signing copies of Dory’s Avengers in a city centre bookshop! To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the century; I was so delighted following my meeting with the Waterstones events coordinator that I winked (yes winked!) at a complete stranger as I left the shop.

My head is full of so many ideas at the moment I’m finding it difficult to collect my thoughts. There’s so much to do: lists to be made, blogs to be written, catering to plan, invitations to be distributed; and do you know what? I’m loving every minute!
